Debbie Dickinson Gallery presents at the Carl Hansen & Son Showroom featuring the spring season’s art stars. From May 4th until June 1st, a group exhibition will showcase working artists who tap into the potential of hypothetical forces of singularity. These artworks unlock new perspectives and ideas, giving rise to the germination of fresh visuals. Awakenings of new genres and experimentation begin while conversation flows from a dark few years of solitude. The Light Period emerges. To showcase this integration the show will feature the return of Bryan LeBoeuf, Bill Buchman, Evan Sebastian Lagache, Iran Issa Khan, Anthony Haden- Guest and will introduce David Richardson, Geraldo Perez, Prince Palace, Tom Krantz and sculptor, Jorge Vascano. The Fresh Art Exhibition is curated by Debbie Dickinson.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES

Bryan Leboeuf

BRYAN LEBOEUF

Bryan Leboeuf was born on the Gulf Coast in rural Louisiana before moving to Colorado where he earned a BFA at Fort Lewis College. After moving to New York City in 1998, he received a Masters degree from the New York Academy of Art in 2000.. Since his first solo show in New York City in 2003, his work has exhibited throughout the United States and as far as the Beirut Art Fair in Lebanon, and the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Since 2008 and his first museum show at the Morris Museum in Augusta, Georgia, other public collections which have acquired his work include The Forbes Collection, The Flint Institute of Art, as well as the Princeton University Art Museum. He models, positions and crops his figures to construct the impression of unseen space; viewers must imagine why a figure gazes beyond the edges of the canvas. Although his technique and subject matter may appear traditional, his art implies modern psychological and social themes. He is a painter whose work focuses on illusion driven by narratives, which often aim to ultimately remain open-ended.

BILL BUCHMAN
Bill Buchman is a New York based artist, musician, educator and author whose expressive work draws on his extensive musical background. An intimate familiarity with what is meant by a harmony, a melody and a rhythm inform his every move with the paintbrush. Buchman’s career has spanned more than fifty years and he is known for abstractions characterized as “symphonies of space, form and color.” His figures are described as “lightning bursts of energy condensed into a fine line.”

Evan Sebastian Lagache

EVAN SEBASTIAN LAGACHE
Born from Nirvana, a transcendent state in which there is neither suffering, desire, nor sense of self. The subject is released from the effects of karma and the cycle of death and rebirth. Raised by rhythm, his art emulates visions of growth and decline through passing time. Rising and falling with the tides, his work follows light to escape darkness.

DAVID RICHARDSON

Richardson’s work reinforces myth as the universal blueprint we all live by. His paintings include symbols such as arrows, binary code, spheres, crosses, and even playing cards. In the Myth of Progress paintings, Richardson alludes to mankind haphazardly lurching towards what we think is progress while becoming ever more entangled by such gadgets as artificial intelligence. Richardson’s R3 paintings are rooted in his years spent in Seoul, Korea. The brightly colored crosses in this series are examples of symbol capturing mythological belief as it has since the dawn of mankind.

Prince Palace Headshot - Debbie Dickinson Gallery

PRINCE PALACE

Prince Palace’s inspiration comes from being raised in the tropical beauty of nature in Jamaica, Miami and Tampa, Florida. He moved to Munich, Düsseldorf and Amsterdam to play professional soccer for 1860 Munich and Ajax Teams. Palace’s abstract oil figurative paintings embody a process akin to alchemy and the movement of Olympic athletes blending multiple figures in communication. He uses found elements and raw pigments to create electric works inspired by the magician and fool tarot cards, ancient astrology and shamanism. He is currently finishing his Fine Art BFA in the Master’s Degree program at The School of Visual Arts.

Anthony Haden Guest Headshot - Debbie Dickinson Gallery

ANTHONY HADEN-GUEST

Anthony Haden—Guest was smitten by cartoonery and caricature, the likes of which Aubrey Beardsley George Herriman of Krazy Kat, Winsor McCay of Little Nemo and Slumberland, Max Beerbohm, the infamous Caran d’Ache, James Thurber and Pete Arno from the get-go. The shrinkage of America’s once vibrant cartoon culture has been doleful, with all those busy hands sidetracked into making memes, but he feels that these unnerving
times –collapsing structures, weird evolving behaviors, dark futures –offer rich pickings to an alert cartoonist.

GERALDO PEREZ

Born in the Dominican Republic, he moved to New York City as a child. While growing up in Hell’s Kitchen the pulsating vibrancy of his surroundings had a profound influence on him. The sounds, billboards, textures and constant motion, along with the exposure to museums and street art of every imaginable kind, still influence him
today. Geraldo is a graduate of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Art and Science.

TOM KRANTZ

Tom Krantz is a multidisciplinary artist residing in Bushwick, New York. His paintings combine elements of graffiti, street art and figurative abstraction to create compositions that are both familiar and unique. Jorge Vascano Headshot - Debbie Dickinson Gallery

JORGE VASCANO

Jorge Vascano is from Lima, Peru. He sees his work as a window into our inner complex selves through the assemblage of organic materials. He rearranges materials to explore his deep interest in the unique complexity under the surface of his sculptures. His work is an invitation into the elusive internal narratives that make us human, fusing the subject and the material as a vehicle of introspection. The work aims at allowing ourselves to search through our own layers and acknowledge the inner complexities of the human psyche.

Iran Issa Khan

IRAN ISSA KHAN

Born in Tehran and raised in Europe and the United States, Khan began her art photography in the late ’70s in New York under the mentorship of William Minor, Jr. Immersed in this period around influences, Horst, and Avedon, she began working as a professional fashion photographer. During the ’80s and ’90s, she photographed some the most memorable fashion icons (including Paulina Porizkova, Debbie Dickinson, Iman and Christy Turlington) for the covers of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. In 2000, she transitioned from photographing beautiful people and celebrities to flowers and objects of nature. Her photographic work has captured the sensuality of flora and fauna, immediately translating their natural beauty into sensuous art forms.
